Since I was young, I was taught the clearance rack and sales are your best friend. Of course, back then I wasn’t too happy to not have the newest and trendiest items. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized that it really doesn’t matter. Fashion trends or any trend really, move so quickly. It is just a matter of weeks before a new item comes out and that once sought-after piece becomes the old. So still to this day I follow in that rule.
If it is not on sale or I can’t find a coupon of some kind, I will not buy it. I will wait until the price reduces or just miss out on the item. To some you can’t fathom ‘just missing out on an item’ but, that is how I’ve been able to save money, I only get items I truly want. I give myself time to ponder on it, to think about if I really want it. Even if it means at times missing out on something. To me, it shows I really didn’t need it, or I didn’t like it enough to purchase it when I had the opportunity to.
Being such a frugal shopper, I’ve noticed that stores are always having sales. Now, if you are an always on trend fashionista, this next portion of the blog may not be for you. As some of these sales happen when the clothing is longer on trend, but if you don’t mind and enjoy a good sale I suggest you look into it.
When are the Best Times to Shop
Whether it is seasonal, holiday, or event related, they always find a reason to have a sale. My favorite sales are seasonal. Most items have a huge percentage off of them just because they are no longer in with the current season. The clothing is considered out of season, but a lot of the pieces can be incorporated into the new season. So, I’m willing to wait a few weeks until the pieces are no longer trendy just to get them at a discounted price.
How to Save
Lastly, the thing I do most is coupon. I have a shopping extension installed on my computer that will pop up at the time of check out, scan through the list of coupons on their site and pop out the best money saving option. Which in turn keeps me from having to scroll through five hundred sites just to find one working coupon. Secondly, I sign up for the stores email list. I know, the emails can be overbearing and annoying. I have a separate email account dedicated just to store’s email lists. That way I can get the insight on all the sales without being bombarded in my daily email.
The outfit pictured cost me a total of about $35, not including the shoes. The top was originally $34.00, it was on sale for about $20. I had three $5 coupons that I was able to stack which brought my total down to just $5.85 after taxes. The skirt at the time was $59.99, originally $129. There was an additional percentage off that weekend only, so I spent a total of $25.97. For the shoes I splurged a bit. I couldn’t find another shoe with that style and heel height, so I accepted paying more.. (not really) but I made the purchase anyway. Of course though, I did not pay full price for them. They are regularly priced at $79.50 but I got them for $54.99. Not a huge discount but better than nothing in my opinion.
I really enjoy shopping and getting new things to add to my wardrobe. But I’m not going to deny, I enjoy the feeling of getting everything I wanted while saving money even more!
